Construction is a job that’s always in need and plays a vital role in our economy. Without it, we wouldn’t have the infrastructure that we have today. Whether you’re a school leaver or someone that’s thinking about a career change, construction offers good opportunities and is an area that’s fairly easy to get into given that you have the right skills and mindset. There is no single way into construction either. You can join as an apprentice or through an entry level job where you will receive on the job training. Certifications
Some employers will look for what is known as a valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (or CSCS) card. This is not a legal requirement but helps employers to identify whether you possess the right skills and qualifications to take on the job.
No Prior Qualifications or Training
As mentioned earlier, you don’t need a college qualification or an apprenticeship to become a construction worker. There are various other routes like applying directly to become a on-site labourer or trainee. However, carrying them out or having any sort of experience working on site or at a builder’s merchants can be beneficial.
Courses
There are a whole range of courses that you can study to get into construction like a City & Guilds Level 1 Extended Certificate in Construction Skills for example. To get on to each there will be minimum entry requirements with regards to GCSEs for you to meet which you will need to bear in mind. Apprenticeships are also the same and will have their own criteria too.
