Creativity is something that we all need, regardless of whether we’re actually artsy or not. It’s the ability to come up with new, innovative ideas. Creative writing concerns the ability to use the imagination and write fiction, poetry, and any form of literature that’s inventive. Some of the greatest creative writers have been able to use their imagination and words to inspire others, bring about change and peace. There are many amazing benefits that your child will be able to see personally through practising their creative writing. For one, they will be able to make progress at school as many subjects require essay writing.
To help our fellow parents, we have teamed up with a private school to share tips on exploring creative writing with children.
Writing to a Hero
As a child you’ll probably remember having a favourite superhero, singer or some type of idol. Children look up to them as their role models and can be completely obsessed with them. Setting a creative writing task that’s applicable to them where they must write fan mail or a letter of some sort can encourage them to put pen to paper.
A Writing Competition
There’s nothing like a prize to motivate a child to do their work. There are lots of writing competitions, run by all different bodies from radio stations to libraries. Finding one may give your child the sudden inspiration to write and the chance to gain recognition for their work.
Writing a Letter to The Headmaster/Mistress
Children like being able to make decisions and offering them the chance to write and have a say in the running of their school will have them on a power trip. It will encourage them to write and really put some effort into it in order to properly convey themselves.
